Our volunteers work hard at trying to make support and slings available to as many people as possible, that’s why as well as our weekday shop openings we go out into the community at slingmeets. Lately we’ve been asking how we can overcome other barriers to support. After much thought (and shuffling of our volunteers schedules) we’re pretty chuffed to announce two big new things at Parenting North East.
1) late night opening, every week on a tuesday our HQ will be open later so those who work the 9-5 can return and borrow slings, browse and get advice and information on slings for sale, nappies, eco-baby products or just have a cuppa and a listening ear before the bedtime hour.
2) We’re wholehearted about supporting the whole family but we know there are times that some women might require a woman only space so from Friday the 20th april from 12pm to 5pm (yep, we’re open later on fridays too) our HQ is a woman only space. You’re free to come along and talk about anything you need to talk about, you’re welcome to nurse without covering up if you choose (we will happily screen our glass doors if you prefer too).
3)We’re also hosting a postnatal support group from 12:30-2:00 every friday. Juno support provide a mother to mother safe space in the city centre. No judgement, no telling you what to do, just genuine and whole hearted support accompanied by a selection of teas and dairy free cake.
4)we know that there are times that some men might require a men only space so we are also working on the prospect of a regular male only session with male sling consultants and peer supporters.
